Last Sunday morning at Tenby Golf Club teams of four competed for the Philip Booth Cup. It was a shotgun start at 7 am and conditions were very pleasant.
Each team member had to have at least four counting tee shots. The handicap allowance was 10 per cent of the total.
Dave Hancock, Dave Henry, Jim Moffat and Gavin Field-Thomas were unlucky not to be in the prizes. Their score of 59.9 was only good enough for fourth spot.
Rob Hall, Nigel Ayers, Nick Thomas and Simon Jones pipped them for third place with 59.7.
The seniors team of Newman Vincent, Des Stone, Allen Watts and Stan Hudson were second with 58.8.
This year's winning team, comprised of Michael and David Schooling (brothers) and Paul and Viv James (not related - thank goodness!), had previously won the event. They recorded a magnificent 58.1.
Philip Booth has sponsored his Texas Scramble for 20 years. He was disappointed with this year's turnout and urged others to take part next year.
Philip treated all competitors to an excellent post-golf breakfast which was almost missed by the president's team of Russell Clarke, Steve Sutcliffe, Peter Williams and Paul Bradley, who returned to the clubhouse no less than 45 minutes after everyone else!
