Tenby Rowing Club has proudly unveiled its brand-new Celtic Longboat - marking a major milestone in the club’s revival and long-term future.
After a ten-year break, the club roared back into life in 2024; and by 2025, membership had already grown to more than 50 people, demonstrating a strong appetite in the community for coastal rowing.
The Club now offers something for everyone — from relaxed recreational rows for those wanting fresh air, fitness and friendship, to more challenging sessions for members competing on the racing circuit.
However, it soon became clear that the equipment left unused on the shore for almost a decade would not be enough to future-proof the club.
Last year, Tenby Rowing Club successfully secured £18k in funding from National Lottery Community Funding together with Sport Wales’ BeActive Fund.
The funding enabled the club to commission a new Celtic Longboat, along with a trailer, training, and other kit upgrades to support growing participation.
Officially revealed on St David’s Day, at a ceremony on North Beach attended by members, supporters, sponsors and friends, the new boat — Yasmina — was named for good luck and in honour of the captain Jane’s daughter, who also supported the club’s marketing and branding at its relaunch.
The boat also carries special significance for the Club. A plaque onboard commemorates Deborah Merrony, one of the key members who helped bring the Club back to life and who sadly passed away last year.

The dedication ensures her contribution to the club will always be remembered. More than just a sporting organisation, Tenby Rowing Club has built a close-knit community.
Volunteering has been central to its ethos since relaunch, and members actively support a range of local organisations and causes.
Jane Haigh, Club Captain said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to receive this funding—it’s a real game changer for us. The new boat, trailer, and training will help us grow even more and give more people the chance to get involved. It’s all about making rowing accessible, fun, and part of our community.”
The Club is inviting local businesses and organisations to become part of its future by partnering through new sponsorship opportunities.
