The Tenby Tigers golf team played host to their close neighbours Trefloyne Golf Club in the latest round of the Dyfed Golfing Union Division Three promotion race.
The course was in excellent condition, prepared to perfection by Chris Jenkins and his ground staff, with the hot sunny days creating a true links course of irregular bounces and pitch and run shots being the order of the day.. The greens were of a high standard and the evening watering system on the course provided the texture and even roll that all golfers enjoy.
The start of the day did not bode well for the Tenby team when two of their members failed to appear for the contest and two late replacements were drafted in from off the course. They were Richard Ormond and Neil Thomas, who both made an outstanding contribution to the match and enormous thanks must go to both for their dedication to the team.
Both teams were evenly matched and the opening pairings resulted in the honours being shared, with results swinging back and fore.
Ben Childs and Mervyn Tucker had an excellent tussle with their opponents, with the result going in favour of the Trefloyne pair, who won the match on the 18th green.
Matt Adams and Gary McNeilly won their contest, finishing two up on the 18th, only to see the third pair of Paul Jenkins and Idwal David go down, losing 4 and 3.
The team result was even after four rounds when Nic Thomas and Lewis Hurlow came home victors by winning two up on the 18th.
The results continued to be shared, with Dan Cope and Richard Ormond losing their game, but the team match being rescued when Jim Moffatt and Neil Thomas won theirs by the largest margin of the day, 6 and 5.
All rested on the tail-end pair of Loz Phillips and Steve Sutcliffe, who were defeated, giving the honours and bragging rights to the Trefloyne team by the narrowest of margins.
An excellent result for the visitors, but one that left the Tenby team with an almost impossible task of achieving their goal of promotion into Division Two of the league.
The next fixture will be against Glynhir in the Amman Valley on Saturday, July 27, with transport provided, leaving the Burrows at 10.30 am. All club members who wish to be considered for the team please indicate your availability on the chart in the clubhouse.
