CAREW produced a stirring comeback to topple high‑flying St Ishmaels in the only Manderwood Pembrokeshire League top‑flight fixture to survive Storm Ingrid, sealing a fully deserved win on the all‑weather surface at Bridge Meadow Stadium.
With heavy rain and fierce winds wiping out most of the county’s footballing programme — only six matches were completed — this rearranged clash became the weekend’s main event. And it didn’t disappoint.
Carew , now gathering real momentum with three straight victories, climbed to ninth with this result, while Tish remain third after being undone by three moments of real quality from the Rooks.
The game delivered four outstanding goals in an end‑to‑end contest that defied the conditions. Tish struck first when Nathan Thomas unleashed a stunning 20‑yard drive that rocketed into the top corner.
But Carew turned the match on its head in the dying moments of the first half.
Sam Christopher spotted the keeper off his line and executed a superb 30‑yard lob to level the scores. Straight from the restart, Carew surged forward again: Harry Peniket whipped in a teasing cross and James Hinchliffe launched himself into a brilliant diving header to send the Rooks into the break 2–1 up.
The second half tightened up, with both sides battling for territory in the swirling wind and neither able to take full control.
But the decisive moment arrived on 69 minutes — and it was worth the wait.
Defender Sonny Phillips strode onto a loose ball 25 yards out and unleashed a thunderous left‑footed strike that screamed into the top corner, sealing the points and sparking celebrations from the Carew bench.
