Due to the Scorpion Nationals and weather conditions last Saturday there was no dinghy racing last week, so there are no results to bring you. The racing, however, has resumed as per the race card, weather permitting.
Cruiser Racing
The next race will be this coming Sunday morning with a start time of 11.30 am. Sunday lunch will be available at the club upon completion.
Junior Sailing
Just a quick reminder that now the Nationals are over for another year the Junior Sail Training will continue for the rest of the school holidays and also in September. There will be an opportunity to complete the stage you are on before the end of the season.
Scorpion Nationals
Last Sunday saw the start of the Scorpion Nationals here at Tenby Sailing Club, and continued all week until last Friday. At the start of the nationals, the assembled sailors were briefed on how the weather can be here in Tenby and that it can go from the sublime to the ridiculous.
Looking back the first race on Sunday was the ridiculous, with only a light breeze for the practice race and constantly dropping off forcing the race committee to abandon the second race. However, for the rest of the week, the wind picked up, giving the racers a lot more fun out on the water. Although it was shifty at times, forcing the course layers to pick up and relay marks, all races were completed every day, including playing catch-up and sailing three races on the Monday.
As the boats were flying past the safety fleet and the race committee, some of the boats were heard to shout that the week had been the best racing they have ever had.
The final results were in first place Alan Krailing at the helm and Simon Forbes crewing from Staunton Harold Sailing Club; they came first in five races and second in three races. Second were Pete Gray and Andy Davies, again from Staunton Harold, and third Andy McKee and Steve Graham from Northampton Sailing Club.
The fleet had so much fun in Tenby they have expressed a wish to return to Tenby in the future, which is testament to the efforts of all the volunteers that give up their time on and off the water to host such a fantastic week.
