Club Sailing
The winter series races on Sunday felt like the winter series. A strong and cold westerly wind, including gusts of 25 knots, put off all but the keenest of racers for races run by Dyfan and Steve.
The Commodore was heard to remark “this is boat-breaking weather,” before grumping off to read the Sunday paper.
Jaime and Griff in their Osprey and Ed and Tom in the RS500 didn’t share that view and set off on the long haul to the water, right out somewhere near Monkstone!
Dyfan/Steve set a triangular course with an upwind start in the middle of the bay, a windward mark off Castle Hill and a gybe mark off First Point. The RS500 was first away, heading in towards North Beach; the Osprey chose the other tack heading towards Caldey. It didn’t make much difference because both capsized in short order. The RS500 recovered quickly, but then suffered main sheet failure and retired. The Osprey suffered crew failure in their capsize, and they too retired, leaving Dyfan out at sea to recover the racing marks.
The planned second race was abandoned!
Junior report
No sailing now until next spring, but a reminder about the social get-together on Wednesday, November 2, at 6 pm and the junior Christmas party on Friday, December 9, at 7 pm.
