Our regular scribe is away on a well-deserved vacation. Racing took place on Tuesday and Saturday - I have had no results to date, so a detailed report will be along soon.
Junior Sailing
Junior training is thriving with a regular high turnout on Wednesday evenings Fairly lively conditions tested the sailors last week, but all groups went on the water.
The usual BBQ, prepared by the legendary Terry Evans, finished off another great evening.
We are now about halfway through the season and eight of the beginners group of 12 were presented with their Stage 1 certificates . The other four have joined more recently and will need a few more weeks to reach that stage.
Stage 1 certificates were presented to Thea Arentz, Arun Bhattacherjee, Max Buckley, Anna Otahalova, Theo Abbitt, Bethan Bowie, Ella Bromby, Mason Abbot.
Sessions will continue throughout the school holidays, with the exception of Wednesday, August 10.
To quote a member - “Wednesday evenings are cool.”
National Championships
The club is renowned for its race management. So much so, that its services are in demand constantly - we are booked to 2020.
This year we are host to the Firefly class which has visited Tenby on several occasions over the last 40 years. This year’s Firefly National Championships will take place from August 6 - 12. We are expecting a large entry - at least 60 dinghies which are double-handers.
The logistics are immense and could not take place without the dedication of club members and friends who give of their time so freely. If anyone can offer some time to help out, please contact the commodore, Ted Lewis, on 07790839735, or principal race officer, Mark Dashfield, on 07971474517.
Catering
The club, with the exception of today due to a function, is open for food and drinks. We open at 12.30 pm daily. Why not visit possibly the best ‘watering hole’ in the area for great food and beverages in warm and convivial surroundings. We look forward to meeting and feeding you.
Website
The club’s website can be found at www.tenbysailingclub.org.uk; the club and details of events going on can be found on Facebook and Twitter.
New members welcome; sailors, aspirant sailors and non-sailors. We are a members club run by volunteers who try to involve all members in a variety of activities both sailing and social.
To enquire about joining call at the clubhouse, contact any member who will be pleased to help, or contact us on line.
So, why not be part of this warm and thriving club? Its social scene is constantly evolving and would welcome members old and new to get involved in maintaining the social traditions of the club. It’s a great place to relax and unwind. We look forward to meeting you.
