Andrew Price's U12s got their wheels back on track during their tour to Gloucester.
Having been eliminated from the Pembrokeshire Cup by Crymych the previous week by 17 points to 15, the boys were keen to put things right.
Andrew Price's U12s took 19 boys on the trip and the entire party played in all the matches.
On the Saturday, the party were treated to a day out at the 'Rec', watching Bath play Northampton. A special treat for the boys was meeting the England star players, including Ben Foden and Chris Ashton.
During the weekend, the boys had three games and were victorious in all three.
Results: Chipping Sodbury 0 Tenby 56; Frampton Cotterrel 0 Tenby 28; Dursley 0 Tenby 35.
Dursley, the home club of Ben Morgan (Scarlets and England), reached the Gloucestershire county final, but were no match for a rejuvenated Tenby team.
The boys and coaches would like to thank Andrew Price for his continued support. Special thanks also to Dudley Scotcher for driving the boys on tour.
The Tenby team that took the field, to a Heywood Lane ground more suited to a training shoe than a studded boot, at 11 am, held high the Tenby Ondeo Suez colours.
Those colours represented at the coin toss by captain for the day, Nathaniel John. 'Natty' who, with his usual verve and commitment, filled the Whitland inside centre shirt for the last time.
Again a last minute referee hunt ensued. Last match, a barefoot artist. Before that? An undertaker. This time saw a solicitor heave air past the pea. Only a soldier, sailor and a spy to go and we have the set!
His gesture on such a beautiful morning to try and keep up with 26 youngsters (both teams short of players) who ran like spring lambs, has to be applauded. Never has the words sofa, coffee, papers seemed such a better prospect I'm sure.
Presiding over a game that had 71 points in it, split evenly between the two combatant sides to such a degree that the words elation and despair would be correct in describing just how even the end was.
But those mathematicians out there who didn't come to watch, will have worked out that 71 cannot be halved on a rugby scoreboard and Whitland had the extra one.
Yes, 35 to 36, but having watched most of the regional matches and all of the six nations duels, this match ranks right up there and maybe should be televised instead of the penalty ridden big boys stuff.
The beach boys from Tenby led from the get go and put themselves in the unusual position of two tries to nil up after less than ten, scoring under the posts this time which assisted our own Torres lookalike, Jordan Cornick, who converted all five tries (what would Fernando give for that accuracy I wonder?). Whitland awoke and scored a terrific solo effort that exposed some brittle Tenby tackling then the locals sent the ball wide to Elliot Evans, who ran in his hat trick and so it went on throughout the match in this vein. Never once was there a feeling that the Ondeo Suez lads from the coast couldn't win this season finale. A season that has seen them show determination, pride, endurance. True grit.
Great support came from the stands also and what a credit to those who take to the bleachers in applauding all worthy aspects and tries alike.
Even contentious moments, as there has to be in such a physical and wholly absorbing encounter, were brushed aside and accepted readily.
As I said, stick it on the telly. Wonderful viewing.
The ref might even have a shave then! The last few minutes were as enthralling as the first few and, having attacked the Borderers' line with two minutes to go, leading 35 to 31, with a scrum in front of their posts, they then found themselves chasing a great clearing kick that saw the Ondeo Suez outfit now pinned deep in their own corner.
It's painful to remember, but accurate to record that Whitland just raised it enough to snatch the win which the Tenby lads had harnessed through the entire match till that very last coup d'egras.
Strangely, an end that epitomised the season.
That was it, no time to reply, even though capable. Elation and despair, but a very proud and dignified Tenby Under 14 side strode between, an appreciative and equally exhausted Whitland guard of honour, with heads up and chests out to leave the stage of a season that I'm sure they will remember and recall with pride and comradeship.
For rugby isn't really about the score if played by the right people and this Tenby Ondeo Suez squad are the right people.
The seren y gem goes to Mike Holmes who, although having left the field with a dizzying blow, insisted on returning and, a la George North, cover tackled like his life depended on it. Get well and heal strong to Max Brewster (who gets 'Best Kept Kit' award ) and Owain Smith who gave all for the cause.
Enormous salute to Jim Kinnear in his seventh year of coaching.
A proper rugby man the boys are lucky to have. A welcome to Chris Page who brings her forward knowledge and experience to the coaching team.
Also a bow for Mike Cornick, Gary Williams, Phil Smith, Terry Paxton, Dai Kayll, Sue Allen, Dave Allen (not the comedian), Mark Duckett, Tania Davies, Jackie Cornick, Andy and Michelle Davidson and Max Brewster's grandad, Alun Rees, who were an ever present and supportive band and an unwavering presence all season long. Diolch, Ymlaen!
