Tenby AFC has been handed a financial boost to aid improvements at their clubhouse and changing rooms.

At June's Full Council meeting, members of Tenby Town Council agreed to award a £2,500 grant to Tenby AFC to support much needed improvements to the changing rooms and clubhouse at The Clicketts.

The football club had written to the Town Council outlining its plans for the refurbishment and renovation of the existing ‘outdated’ clubhouse.

The total cost of the project stands at £20,000.

Tenby AFC Club Secretary Gareth Noot said: "The benefits of these improvements extend far beyond our club alone. Tenby AFC currently has around 365 players across all age groups, supported by parents, volunteers and coaches.

“In addition, Tenby RFC regularly uses our facilities, bringing similar numbers through the clubhouse each week.

“The wider community has also benefited from our grounds in the past.Tenby AFC has come a long way. A decade ago, the club was close to disappearing. Thanks to the dedication of local people, we rebuilt from the bottom division and achieved five consecutive promotions, reaching Pembrokeshire League Division 1,” he added.

Tenby's Mayor, Cllr Dai Morgan, remarked:"It is a massive pleasure to assist Tenby AFC with this grant funding. Not only does it help continue the club's rich history in the town, but it also helps secure the future of this great community asset.

“As a council, we are committed to supporting the club committee with future grant applications to help fund the estimated £20,000 refurbishment project."

Tenby AFC is also currently recruiting female players of all ages and would encourage anyone interested in getting involved to make contact with the club.

A spokesperson for the Town Council added: “Congratulations to everyone involved, and best wishes for the next stage of this exciting project.”
