Sunday, July 1, saw the Welsh Cycling Association National 100-mile Time Trial Championships on the R100/1 course in Llandeilo.

Four members of Tenby Aces took part in the event in difficult conditions on a tough course that led the riders to Brecon, Carmarthen and back.

In blustery conditions, Olivier Simon led the charge with a fantastic time of 4 hours 8 mins 39 seconds to take a creditable second place overall and another podium spot for the Welsh Triathlon Champion.

Next to finish for the Aces was Nick Brown who, pushing Olly all the way, won his class in 4 hours 12mins 52 seconds, finishing fifth overall.

Making up the three to qualify for the team prize was David Francis, finishing in 4 hours 39 mins 08 seconds in his first Open time trial of the season.

The total time for the three riders was enough to see them win the overall team prize and the Welsh Championship. It was very close for the team prize, with the Aces just pippin another local club, Pembrokeshire Velos, with Hereford Wheelers in third place.

It was another strong and consistent performance from the Pembrokeshire Velos, who were represented by Cliff Jackson, and Paul and Dan Coleman, but it was another Welsh Championship medal in the cabinet for Olly and the Aces.

Tanis Hand, also from the Aces, just missed out on a qualifying spot for the team prize, battling all the way to the line in her second 100-mile time trial in three weeks. All this in preparation for a 12-hour event later in the year where she hopes to compete for the Welsh title she held three years ago.

Support from other club members made all the difference, with special thanks to Gareth, Tara, Claire and Carrice.
