Frozen pitches and flooded fields are often the cause of cancellations within local football, but the weekend's winds put paid to a number of matches in the second round of the Tony Nakonecznyj Insurance Brokers WWFA Intermediate Cup and the Pembrokeshire League.

In total, five games were abandoned due to the gusty conditions, while others were postponed completely as the autumnal weather took hold.

Narberth were in cup action, but could only manage 29 minutes of their game at Kilvey Fords before the wind won that clash, while St. Clears' game at Trallwm was postponed prior to a ball being kicked.

Saundersfoot Sports made the trip to Brunswick United, but came unstuck following a 4-0 defeat, but there was better news for Carew, who stunned the other teams in the competition by beating Neath Premier League side Sunnybank 2-1.

The visitors may be in a lowly position in that league, but take nothing from Carew, they bossed the game throughout and played the condition better than their opponents, with Gareth Brown and James Hinchliffe scoring the all-important goals.

The home side led for the majority of the game until the away side edged closer via a late penalty, although the home side, who have only won three league games all season, held on for a memorable and morale-boosting win as they head into round three.

Carew have been drawn at home again in the next round, with Birchgrove Colts or Rockspur the opponents.

Tenby were due to play Resolven away, but that game was postponed.

In league action, Kilgetty were away at Letterston and remain bottom of division two after going down 3-2, despite goals from Dean Rossiter and Jack Franklyn, while in division three, Narberth seconds had a good win at home.

Cosheston Cougars were the victims of the Bluebirds' dominance as they won 3-2. Dylan Davies starred with a brace of goals, with Jordan Thomas netting the other.

Wind played havoc at Manorbier United after their home clash against Merlins Bridge was abandoned after 15 minutes.

At Tenby, the Seasiders' seconds won 2-0 against Lamphey, with Sam Christopher and Sonny Phillips netting the goals, while in division four, St. Clears' seconds had a day to remember as they produced one of the most comprehensive wins of the weekend, beating Prendergast Villa 9-0.

Simon Bancroft led the way with a fine hat-trick, before Steve Trivett and Lloyd Evans scored two apiece. The other goals were scored by Dan Nethercott and Sean Blundell.

Carew seconds had a good day at Neyland as they won 3-0. Sam Harts grabbed the opener, while Sam Goodwin went one better by finishing with a brace in a comfortable win.

Saundersfoot was the place to be for excitement, unless of course you are a St. Florence player or supporter, after the home team's seconds won 4-2.

The home team's goals were shared between Luke Wallace, Tom Woolford, Sam Reeve and Jason Bridges, while the Saints' goals were converted by Colin Batley and James Whitehouse.

Pendine won 2-0 at West Dragons' seconds, while in division five, Narberth thirds' match at Angle was abandoned after 20 minutes due to the winds.

Kilgetty seconds fared little better as they failed to raise a side against Haverfordwest Cricket Club leading to the game being postponed, as was Carew thirds' game at Camrose.

Finally, Lawrenny seconds and their counterparts from Fishguard were involved in an eight-goal epic, with the home side finally coming out on top 5-3.

Dean Morris was the undoubted hero of the day after finishing with three to his name, while Liam Woodford and James Bodinger shared the others.
