Llanharan 20 pts. Narberth 26

Trailing by 10 points after five minutes, the Otters fought back to take control of the game in the second half, to register a bonus point win, but were pipped to the post for the league title by Tata Steel, who also had a bonus point win at Waunarlwydd.

In the end, it came down to just one tantalising point between the Division One West champions and runners-up.

Both teams ran the ball throughout the match and although there were some champagne highlights, it was a one hundred percent committed performance by the two teams in a pulsating match, played in a purposeful manner.

The Dairymen had an early lead after two minutes with a penalty from fly-half Chris Williams, extended three minutes later when a terrific move ended in a try for scrum-half Ross Pritchard, which was converted by Williams.

The Otters came back quickly when fullback Jonathan Morgan made the extra man on the overlap, to race up the left touchline for a try converted by Stuart Morris.

A break for Narberth centre Steve Martin from his own 22, set up a try for winger Tom Bonnell who outpaced the Llanharan defence with a run from the halfway line to score an unconverted try.

The Dairymen had the last word before the interval with the last move of the first half when scrum-half Ross Pritchard picked up his second try after breaking through from a lineout. Chris Williams added the points for the conversion.

In the second half, the visitors were determined to get back into the game and replacement winger Matthew Davies went over for what would have been a dazzling try in the left corner to open proceedings, but he was adjudged to have put a foot in touch.

The Otters now had the benefit of a stiff breeze on their backs and did the majority of the attacking.

This led to two carbon copy tries in the left corner, both scored by scrum-half Adrian Killa. They came when the Narberth pack proved too strong for the Dairymen on their own line and Killa followed the pack, kept his eye on the ball and touched down as soon as the ball went over the line.

Both tries were converted by Stuart Morris and the only points for the Dairymen after the break, came from a Chris Williams penalty.

Commenting on the match and the season as a whole, Narberth director of rugby, Jonathan Dodd, said: "We were very pleased with the result and to beat Llanharan away in the last game of the season. They are a strong side and we played really well and were full value for our win.

"Our scrum was dominant, but we played well all around the park, as did Llanharan in what must have been a good game to watch.

"We are very proud of our playing record since our defeat at home to Whitland in October in the local derby and we have won 14 games on the bounce in what is a very tough league.

"Unfortunately, we fell just short in the end, but Tata Steel deserve our congratulations for their achievement in collecting the league title.

"The boys responded extremely well to some personnel changes earlier in the season and it has been the most enjoyable and successful season in the nine years that I have been involved in the club and we have all enjoyed it."

In an exhilarating all-round team display, when everyone on the park played their part, prop Sean Lloyd was the stand out player for Narberth.

Narberth fielded: Jonathan Morgan, Nick Jones, Steve Martin (capt.), Richard Davies, Tom Bonnell (Matthew Davies), Stuart Morris, Adrian Killa, Sean Lloyd, Dan Smith, Tom Slater, Chris James (Giles Vaughan), Alex Jenkins, Gareth Bateman, Steffan Phillips (Timoci Kaumaitotoya) and Wayne Williams.
