FISHGUARD Sports produced a shock in one of only two games played over the weekend in the Manderwood Pembrokeshire League Division One as Danny Hopkin’s hat‑trick inspired a thrilling 6–3 victory away at Tenby.
The win lifts Phil Jones’ side out of the drop zone, now sitting third from bottom and level on points with Narberth.
Hopkin opened the scoring early on, but Tenby quickly turned the game around. Scott Ferney levelled from the penalty spot before Jacob Hipkiss finished well to put the hosts 2–1 ahead.
However, in first‑half stoppage time, an unfortunate own goal by Shaun Whitfield sent the sides in at 2–2.
Tenby struck first after the restart when Hipkiss teed up Ferney, who drilled home his second to restore the home side’s lead. But from there, the afternoon belonged to Fishguard.
Hopkin equalised, then completed his hat‑trick to turn the match on its head. Luke Thomas extended the advantage to 5–3 on 75 minutes, and substitute Jake Griffiths added a late sixth to seal a memorable victory.
In the day’s other fixture, Goodwick United claimed a deserved 3–0 win over Carew after the match was switched to the hosts’ second‑team pitch, where the surface proved heavy.
Goodwick edged a tight first half thanks to Rhys Jones, who reacted quickest to a header across the box from a corner and smashed in from close range.
Nigel Delaney’s side doubled their lead on 64 minutes when Will Haworth cut inside and set up Ben Adams to side‑foot into the far corner.
Ten minutes from time, substitute Nathan Greene was brought down inside the area, allowing Jones — Goodwick’s reliable set‑piece specialist — to step up and bury the resulting penalty to secure all three points.
