Narberth Thirds 6

Broadhaven Thirds 0

Narberth played host to Broadhaven last Thursday, the only team to beat them in the league this season so with much anticipation and expectation this had the potential to be a banana skin for the promotion push.

The game started with both teams fighting for possession which made it highly competitive.

The manager had tinkered with some positions which had a few eyebrows raised, but his faith was soon repaid when Ben, in his unfamiliar role up front, chased a long ball and kept his nerve to slip the ball beyond the oncoming keeper to put the hosts 1-0 up.

This was soon to be two as a great run and through ball by skipper Karl found Jacob who fired it home, inside 10 minutes.

The next goal came from an unlikely source as a mammoth goalkick from Jake sent Dafydd through to lob the 'keeper.

Then it was the turn of Tom Walters to weave his magic with a mazy run and pass for Dafydd to double his tally and make it 4-0.

It wasn't long before Ben doubled his tally with a keeping error leading to him finishing from a tight angle.

This was how it stayed with the home team 5-0 up at the interval and playing like champions.

Unfortunately, that was as good as got because the Haven came out with a real determination not to throw the towel in, but to make a fight if it and they did with a lot more possession.

The final goal came from a clinical finish from Ryan who controlled the ball and instantly turned and shot to score a wonderful goal.

This was how it ended with Narberth coming out 6-0 winners, but credit goes to Broadhaven who always tried to play football in an honest fashion.

Angle Thirds 0

Narberth Thirds 6

On a beautiful sunny day, Narberth's third team travelled the long distance for the much-anticipated top-of-the-table clash with Angle.

The home team had the upper hand in the opening exchanges, with lots of pace on the wings and used it effectively, but without any end product.

Narberth were playing on the break and looking very dangerous too, and opened the scoring thanks to some great vision from Ryan on the halfway line when he found Daf wide on the right to beat his marker and fire a low drive into the net.

The home side were soon to be two behind as a dangerous corner was whipped in from the right to be met by Mike whose shot was blocked, but fell kindly for Daf, who jinxed passed his marker, and fire in his second.

Angle would have been hoping to start the second as they started the first and look for a quick breakthrough, but Narberth had different ideas, and almost from the restart, a great run from Mike then saw him deliver a good ball for Ryan some eight yards out with his back to goal. He looked up to see skipper Karl just on the edge of the area and delivered the pass for him to take aim and let rip a sweetly struck shot low into the corner.

Although there was still 40 minutes left, this knocked the stuffing out of Angle who still played some great football, but had lost their belief they could get maximum points.

On 61 minutes, a corner for Narberth which Jake fizzed in was superbly tipped over to stop Daf getting his hat trick, but there was no stopping the deadly marksman on this form, and sure enough, after 79 minutes, a long ball out of defence gave the striker his chance and he coolly delivered, beating his marker before rounding the keeper to grab his third.

After 84, another freekick from the half-way line was met by an intelligent run from substitute Jacob who showed amazing accuracy to find the bottom corner from a tight angle.

It was an amazing result which means Narberth only need to win one of their final three games to win the league.

Angle will take stock and have learnt a lot from this result and be looking to respond when the sides meet again in the cup final on April 15.

"A quick mention for Tom Miller who showed his manager's faith in only playing three at the back today and came away with his head held high after some outstanding challenges from such a young man," said manager John Jolly.

"The whole team can be very proud of themselves for the way they conducted themselves," he added.

Narberth team: Jamie Bates, Johnny Marson, Tom Miller, Rory Jolly, Karl Jones, Mike Jolly, Ben Barnett, Jake Harden, Ryan Williams, Dafydd Wright; Subs: Andy Thomas, Jacob Layfield, Tom Walters.
