Hello readers! This Sunday saw the next two races of the Late series take place on what was a rather grey and miserable morning. 12 boats braved the rain and took to the water in a F2 breeze.

New optimist sailor Elouise was among the 12 that ventured out onto the water to practise for a training event in Llangorse next week, but decided not to race.

Therefore 11 boats set off on the Monkstone-Pendine-Harbour course set by the OOD.

There was a serious lack of Laser Radial sailors today as James had decided Sunday lunch was more important than sailing (!) and Lloyd and Keith thought that the winds were kind enough to use their Standard rigs. Rosie who was in her Laser Radial didn’t realise this until they were off the water and thought she’d had two very bad races!

There was some close racing up the the Monkstone buoy in the first race with Maurice rounding the mark first, followed by Ed (I think he got distracted by watching some porpoises!) and then the rest of the fleet.

10 boats completed two laps whilst Leon in the Topper completed one. Ed in the RS100 was the winner of this race, followed by Keith in the Laser Standard in second and Maurice in the Contender in third.

The rain closed in between races which meant the visibility became pretty poor. As a result, the fleet were sent to the closer Outfall buoy in the second race, making the course Outfall-Amroth-Harbour.

Despite the lack of visibility, several of the sailors saw some more porpoises who popped up to say hello! In this race, eight boats completed three laps, two boats completed two laps and one boat completed one lap.

Once again, Ed was the winner, Paul and Julia in the RS200 came second and Keith came third. Thanks as ever to Dave and Andrea on OOD and to Paul U and Terry on safety.

On Saturday, September 15 Bart’s Bash returns to SSC!

This a charity event set up in remembrance of Andrew ‘Bart’ Simpson who lost his life whilst sailing in 2013.

All money raised goes the Andrew Simpson Foundation which helps get disabled adults and children into sailing so they can join in all the fun! This has been a brilliant event for the last few years so let’s make it another great event this year!

The rowers have been practising at Aberporth race day and are planning to send a few boats over to race alongside the sailing boats. Everyone can sign up using the link in the Facebook event.

Sailing continues tomorrow (Saturday) at 4.30 pm because Ironman Wales takes place on Sunday. Good luck to anyone competing in that and look out for those of us doing Saundersfoot Triathlon on Saturday morning! See you next week!
