As with many local clubs, it does tend to get very busy at this time of year and it is with no exception down at the sailing club. Recently, we had one of our busiest with involvement and assisting the Wiseman’s Bridge Rowing Club by covering their safety boats with crews, and at the same time, we were also involved in running a stall at the very successful harbour festival to encourage new members.
After all this was happening, we also had the normal club racing which attracted a good number of boats and a win in the first race for new dad James in his Phantom, second Dave Plester, third Simon who is currently taking part in the Contender nationals so good luck to Simon.
The second race had a close finish with again James first, Dave Plester second and Paul and Julia Griffiths third in the RS200 so well done to them on a course that possibly suited the other boats more than the 200. Maurice and Eirwen were on OOD, along with Harry and Steve on rescue.
No racing last week due to poor weather, but the spirits were up as we have seen many local sportsman taking part in the fantastic Long Course Weekend and what a spectacle that was for all to see.
Club Training
Jo has been busy with lots of club training going on and will report separately on how the new recruits are improving out on the water, but thanks to all the helpers who come along and support as it would not happen without you all.
Other club activities
The WBRC rowing league race was an outstanding success with a good number of sailing club members now involved in the art of Celtic longboat rowing and all visitors went home with more great memories from their visit to the area.
Hywel Jackson will be going to the national Honda rib finals in September at the Southampton Boat Show and will be representing Wales so well done and best of luck from everyone at the club.
Hywel will be trying to support some of his travelling and accommodation costs by a fundraiser to be held at The Lawrenny Arms, Lawrenny, tonight (Friday) with a BBQ and supported by the Tenby Male Voice Choir so a great opportunity to hear one of the best choirs in Wales and support a very enthusiastic young sportsman at the same time.
The choir begin their routine at 7.30, but the BBQ should be open before and during the performance so don’t miss out and please help support Hywel.
The weather forecast is looking good as well with hot evening sun predicted for a great outdoor evening.
Next racing
Sunday, with two races starting at 16.30, with James as OOD assisted by Ben.
The Bosun’s Locker
Club member Keith Jones has been very busy on the unenviable task of re-organising the dinghy park to make it more manageable and safer for club members.
Currently, all club members are asked if they can identify their boats with tags that Keith has left in the harbourmaster’s office. Please try to help us improve the dinghy park and start by identifying all the boats, make sure your boat is tagged. There are many that we do not know who they belong to and are taking up valuable space.
Keith is also trying to restrict the amount of public walkers using the park as a short cut to the decking so new barriers will be put in place soon along with notices advising people that it is not a walkway.
