Saundersfoot ladies - league champions!
Congratulations to Saundersfoot Ladies who have won the ladies league this year. With three games to go for captain Steph Amos and her team, results with other teams earlier this week, mean the team now cannot be caught. It's been a successful couple of days for the Saundersfoot ladies who not only almost swept the board with trophies at county finals day (see separate report and photographs), but are celebrating Steph Amos and Ceris Hewlings's inclusion in the Welsh senior squad for 2015.
TENBY LIONS FRIENDLY
The Saundersfoot club hosted a friendly match last Monday evening with the Tenby Lions charitable organisation joining members for a fun evening. This fixture was a way of thanking the Lions for their support of the club in the past few seasons in providing help with scorecards, new bowling mats and ladies pushers. Club chairman Myrddin Dennis welcomed the visitors to the club and the evening commenced with a 'spider' with everyone bowling one wood from around the green simultaneously and the winner who finished nearest the jack being lady member Brenda Davies. An hilarious 10 ends of bowls followed, with everyone then retiring to the clubhouse for a buffet which had been prepared by vice-chairlady Diane Rigden and committee members Angela Roberts and Kath Blayney. Lions president Phil Belfield then thanked Saundersfoot Bowling Club for what had been a most enjoyable evening and hoped that the event might become an annual event.
ST. THOMAS 100 (12 pts.) ST. ISSELL'S 47 (2)
The gentlemen of the St. Issell's team travelled to play St. Thomas, of Haverfordwest, last Sunday, and were soundly defeated by 53 shots. They did, however, return with some reward as the rink which included captain Billy Glynn gained a narrow last end win by one shot. Rink scores, with St. Issell's first and St. Thomas skips only, were: Billy Glynn, Dennis Ball, Ken Davis, Mike Carr 18; Phil John 17. Edward Smith, Peter Satts, Brian McKehon, Mike Oliver 7; Ron Harries 31. John Arman, Dennis Reed, Tommy Nutt, Stew Howe 15; Lyndon Frayling 27. George Cavell, Bob Storey, Doug Silcox, Barrie Lee 7; Mike Richards 25. Their penultimate game of the season takes place next Sunday with an away fixture against Borderers, of Whitland.
STEPH AMOS
Members send their congratulations to this year's Saundersfoot ladies captain, Stephanie Amos who, following a trial last Sunday in Builth Wells, has been selected for the Welsh ladies squad to play in next year's home international series. Well done also to Gemma Amos, who played well in the trial too, and will be playing in the junior international trial next month. Steph, who also gained her Welsh indoor cap this year, will be joined by fellow club member Ceris Hewlings, who is a longstanding member of the international team.
