SAUNDERSFOOT 56 HAVERFORDWEST 77
Saundersfoot completed their group games in the Carruthers Shield competition last Saturday when they entertained Haverfordwest.
The visitors had won their first two fixtures and had such a superior shot difference that they knew that a draw or close defeat would put them through to the knockout stages.
Haverfordwest started strongly and had built up an 11-shot lead after five ends, but this had been reduced to two at the halfway mark.
Saundersfoot had themselves taken a two-shot lead after 15 played, but yet again tired in the latter stages to eventually lose by 21 shots.
Top rink for the villagers again went to the Myrddin Dennis four who defeated Chris Court by four shots and more importantly managed to keep him quiet, a fact he good humouredly acknowledged in the clubhouse after the game.
The best wishes of the Saundersfoot club go to Haverfordwest and also Tenby who will be Pembrokeshire's representatives in the last 64 teams of Wales and will hopefully progress much further.
Rink scores (Saundersfoot first, Haverfordwest skips only) were:
Roy Kennion, Paul Blayney, Brian Desmond, Myrddin Dennis 18; Chris Court 14.
Graham Hughes, Neil Hensman, Joe Dennis, Berwyn Dennis 16; Gareth Jones 17.
Brian Deeley, Dave Roberts, John Dugmore, Don Poole 13; Richard O'Leary 23.
Nev Ruff, Adam Hensman, Alan Brace, Steve Dick 9; Ryan Thomas 23.
ST. ISSELL'S 81 (2 pts) MARINERS OF
PEMBROKE DOCK 91 (12)
The St. Issell's men played their third Division Two fixture of the season last Sunday at home to Mariners, and in a closely contested game, just lost out by 10 shots.
Only one winning rink meant they only had two points to show for their efforts and that came from a splendid performance from new skip Brian McKehon, who was ably supported by John Bingham at lead, John Haig at number two and Neil Hensman as third.
Rink scores (St. Issell's first, Mariners skips only) were:
Billy Glynn, John Austin, Mike Carr, Roy Pring 15; G. Gelderblum 20.
John Bingham, John Haig, Neil Hensman, Brian McKehon 31; J. Armon 15.
Dennis Reed, Bob Storey, Dave Roberts Brian Deeley 24; D. Halward 31.
Edward Smith, Don Pope, George Cavell, Barrie Lee 11; G. Bann 25.

PEMBROKE DOCK LADIES 31
Playing home last week, Saundersfoot ladies team registered an impressive 16 shots victory over a strong Pembroke Dock side and picked up four of the six points that were at stake.
Captain Angela Roberts led for skip Marion Evans, with Christine Harris second and Viv Edwards third, and the foursome gained an emphatic 35 shots to 11 win over Diana Davies.
Lorna Bissell skipped Sue McKehon, Anne Evans and Gemma Amos against the opposing rink skipped by Jean Morgan, but here the visitors came out on top by 20 shots to 12.
JUBILEE PAIRS
Club members took to the green last Monday for the popular Jubilee Pairs competition, which comprises the best of three sets with seven shots taking a set.
Sounds like a quick game? Well, every game in each round took an average of three hours to play and in the hot sunshine, there were plenty of tired limbs by the end of the day.
Winning through eventually to the final, which will take place during club finals weekend in September, were Kath Blayney and Steve Dick, who will play Kath's husband Paul and his partner Nev Ruff.
FIXTURES
Forthcoming fixtures include Saundersfoot men away to Pendine in a Division One match tomorrow (Saturday), St. Issell's men travelling to play top-of-the-table St. Kaths, of Milford Haven, in a second division clash on Sunday and also that day the St. Issell's ladies travel to play Tenby.
On Monday, the St. Brides Meyrick Owen rink play Goscar away, while on Tuesday, Saundersfoot ladies entertain Tasker.
