PEMBROKE DOCK QUINS 35 pts.

ST. CLEARS 32

The Quins kept their unbeaten home record intact with a well-earned bonus point win over lowly St. Clears who themselves returned home with two bonus points.

It was the visitors who were quicker off the mark and soon went into the lead with two well-struck penalties in the opening 15 minutes by centre Colin Reynolds.

The Quins soon hit back with their first serious attack of the match when fullback Paul Jonkers caught a Saints box kick on the run and made ground with a powerful run up to the visitors' 25 before offloading to outside-half Lewis Davies, who shrugged off two would-be tacklers to score out wide. Davies converted his own try to put the Quins 7-6 in front.

To add more woe for the visitors, he also struck two penalties, the second from 40 yards.

The Quins now had their tails up, with prop Dean Wilcox and hooker Carl Williams excelling in the loose, ably supported by flankers Barry Parsons and Alex Pierce.

But the visitors, with outside-half Dai Jenkins excelling, were always going to pose the Quins problems and just five minutes before the break the outside-half touched down halfway out.

Colin Reynolds surprisingly missed the conversion, which would have sent the visitors in on equal terms at the break.

The Quins were quicker out of the blocks at start of the second half and were soon rewarded with a fine try by Carl Williams, who took a well-weighted pass from number eight Neil Harries to score in the corner. Davies was wide with the conversion.

The hosts, now with an 18-11 lead, however, never looked comfortable with the Saints looking more than capable of scoring at any moment and that is exactly what happened, although for a second it looked like left wing Gareth Thomas hadn't made it over the line when the Quins came away with the ball, but when the referee arrived he awarded the try.

Reynolds converted from the touchline with a magnificent kick to tie the scores at 18-18.

It now seemed anybody's game, but the Quins had an ace up their sleeve in substitute fullback Damien Miller, who turned in a virtuoso performance to change the whole complex of the game with two stunning tries in the space of 10 minutes.

As many say, there no substitute for pace and, with players on both sides tiring, he took full advantage.

The Quins now 28-18 up and with a bonus point in the bag only had to stand firm for the last 10 minutes, but back came the visitors, who scored their third try from the excellent Jenkins.

Reynolds popped over the extras to bring the score back to 28-25, but once again sub Miller stamped his mark on the match with his third try after a fortunate bounce from Adam Cawley's box kick fell into his arms.

Davies converted from in front of the posts to put the Quins 32-25 in front, but with the last move of the match, centre Anthony John scored the all-important fourth try for the Saints, which was once again converted by Reynolds to send the visitors back home with two bonus points, which most would agree they throughly deserved.
