The occasion is Tuesday, August 27, and Tenby links are looking greener by the day. Sixteen senior golfers from Cardigan can be seen climbing out of cars, stretching, guessing if it will rain or not and greeting the Tenby seniors who are hosting the day's match.

The home team is pleased to see captain Tony Morgan back in the saddle again after an enforced absence of 11 weeks having some rather unpleasant treatment, and much banter ensues concerning the relative heights of Tony and his deputy Allen Watts - Tony insists that size isn't everything!

Play commences at 10.45, with Tony and Cardigan's captain Barry Davies sending immaculate drives down the middle of the fairway (!) - and soon all eight matches are underway. There is much cut and thrust on the links, Cardigan have something of a score to settle because they lost to Tenby 3.5 to 5.5 when we last met at Cardigan on May 2. Tony and Barry led their troops on that day also, so some pride is involved.

From a personal point of view, I spend the match in constant awe of my partner -Allen Watts - as he reduces the links to a walk in the park. We (I say we!) win our match 2 and 1 - and I see from the card that I only contribute one hole won and one hole halved. "Big Al" is obviously on a roll!

After the matches and the post-play socialising, the captains rise to address the teams - actually Allen rises for Tony who has to retire exhausted - making announcements, cracking jokes and eventually revealing the outcome - which is another win for Tenby by a margin of six games to two! – Result!

Please check out Master Scoreboard and get your names down for the final few matches of the season - your captain needs you!
