Ammanford 31 pts. Narberth 38
Narberth had to endure a late onslaught by Ammanford to maintain their position at the top of the tree in Divisdion One West of the National League, despite dominating for the majority of the game against the basement battlers
The home team, currently second from bottom in the league, were behind for most of the game, apart from when fly-half Chris Richards opened the scoring with a well-taken penalty.
Narberth responded with a try by fullback Jonathan Morgan which Stuart Morris converted, although the lead was short-lived as home prop Wyn Jones broke through the visitors' defences to barge his way over the line; Richards converted.
A moment of magic at a lineout by veteran scrum-half Adrian Killa saw him score Narberth's second try, with Morris adding the extras, before Timoci Kaumaitotoya extended the lead with a solo effort from the base of a scrum. Morris added the finishing touches, giving the Otters a 21-10 interval lead.
Morris slotted over a penalty early in the second, before converting Wayne Williams's score, but the home side hit back with an excellent try after winger Tom Rees showed a clean pair of heels to race over for Richards to convert.
The Otters responded in the best possible fashion as inspirational skipper Steve Martin crossed for their fourth and final try, which Morris converted, but the home side were not prepared to sit back and wilt.
They finished strongly as prop Wyn Jones barged over for Richards to convert and a late try by winger Gary Stephens was again converted, leaving the scoreline a bit too close for Narberth's liking.
Despite the win, skipper Martin is cagey about his team's chances of winning the league.
"We're taking one game at a time, but as long as we keep strong we will be one team with one dream. We showed strength and heart to win the match and as long as we keep winning, we should go on and do it."
