Tenby RFC U13s 7 pts Narberth RFC U13s 36
Narberth set out their stall for their end-of-season cup campaign in no uncertain terms against their local rivals.
Tenby featured a strong and mobile set of forwards and the young Otters had to front up to the physical challenge from the start. They did it admirably and the ball-winning and tackling performance of the front eight was the foundation for an impressive victory.
Not that Narberth are short of commitment elsewhere, of course. Harri Harries took everything that came his way and never flinched, while there were strong running performances from the centres.
Newcomer Joe Phelps once again proved himself a fine addition to the squad with an early try as Narberth sent it through the backs to the wing. Harries converted.
And after weathering a long period of pressure from Tenby, Griff Evans found some space with determined runs before classy centre play by Ifan Rees created the space for Phelps to add number two.
Tempers began to fray as the going got rough towards the end of the half, but Narberth put that to one side as Rhys Kemble broke free for a fine individual try which Harries again converted.
That was quickly followed by a great lineout from Narberth. Fast hands from Talfan Jenkins and great interplay between Leon Whalley and Jordan James caused chaos in the Tenby defence and Evans pounced on the loose ball to score. Harries converted.
The job seemed done at half-time, though Tenby came out firing on all cylinders in the second half. Narberth dug in for a good 15 minutes of hard defensive work and it was only the occasional stray pass which let Tenby down in their effort to get on the scoreboard.
A penalty near the Tenby 22 eventually allowed Narberth to mount a sustained attack and the ever combative Whalley went over in the corner.
