I am pleased to report that two of our four teams taking part in last Thursday's first round of the Open Triples competition won through to the second round.

John Roberts and co travel to Sully to play A. Dash and co, of Taff Ely, and Charles Davies and Co travel to Radnor to play A. Brain and co, of Port Talbot. Both games will take place on Sunday.

Commiserations to Neil Hensman and co and Alan Whitehouse and co, who failed to get through to the second round.

Also on Thursday, our ladies held their AGM.

Our current chairlady, Mrs. Viv Kerrison, did not wish to continue for another year.

Mrs. Sue Rodin was proposed, seconded and carried, as new chairlady.

Mrs. Kath Blayney was re-elected as secretary and Mrs. Audrey Williams was re-elected as treasurer.

Mrs. Collette Bethwaite will continue as selector, together with Mrs. Cynthia Evans, Mrs. Sue Rodin and Mrs. Kath Blayney.

Sue, Kath and Collette will now go through to sit on the main committee. Mrs. Cynthia Evans will currently continue on the main committee as press officer.

Our gentlemen played their last club championship game last Saturday, away at Dinefwr.

Totals: Heatherton 106 shots (5 pts) Dinefwr 110 (7 pts, plus 10 for overall win = 17 pts).

Although our gents only won on two rinks and drew a third, I think they deserve our congratulations for losing by only four shots.

They have played magnificently throughout the season and can be extremely proud of themselves. Well done gentlemen.

The men's open pairs competition took place on Sunday.

Of our four teams, only one succeeded in going through to the next round. John Roberts and Michael Jackson beat M. Holland and partner, of Rhondda, and then went on to beat P. Carpenter and partner, of Cynon Valley. Well done gents!

The men's open rinks competition took place during this week. On Wednesday, Charles Davies and co, travelled to Dinefwr to play Marley Hughes and co, of Pembroke.

Travelling to Bro Myrddin today (Friday) are Steve Reese and co, who play T. West and co, of Bro Myrddin, John Roberts and co play P. Richardson and co, of Llanelli, and Neil Hensman and co play A. Jones and co, of Swansea. Results will be in next week's report.

The ladies' friendly game at home to Dinefwr was cancelled, but our ladies decided to go ahead with an in-club game. With one full rink and two triples, a lot of fun went on, with most ladies playing out of position. Following the game, the ladies enjoyed a raffle and refreshments.

Many thanks to all who contributed to the refreshments and raffle and all who helped make it a successful afternoon.

Coming up!

Mal Evans and Terry Howells are through to the third round of the O60s pairs against A. Jones, of Swansea. This must be played before Sunday, March 1.

John and Michael play the quarter-final of the Open Pairs at Bro Myrddin on Tuesday, March 31, against Robert Weale and partner, of Islwyn.

The ladies have rearranged the D. J. Trophy game at home against Merthyr for Saturday, March 14. On Sunday, March 15, they have their last D. J. Trophy game away at Cardiff.

Good luck to all those taking part in their respective games.

PS. Paul Gray reports that his new woods are (at present) fault free!
