LOCAL golfing prodigy Joseph Nand-Lal who hails from Tenby, recently qualified to play in the final of the Men's Scratch Knockout competition at Tenby Golf Club.

Joseph, who is a Law student at Aberystwyth University and plays off an impressive handicap of 2, qualified to play in the recent final at the club, after taking a number of impressive scalps in the qualification rounds, and beating a number of past club champions on route to the final.

The 36-hole finale played against Rhys Davies, the reigning Dyfed Men's champion, was held as part of the golf club's finals day on a blustery and damp links course.

In what proved to be a tense and close affair with some excellent golf on display, it was Joseph who took the lead for the majority of the final, leading 1up after the morning 18 holes.

However, it was his seasoned opponent Rhys, who eventually walked away with a narrow victory on the 33rd hole, after turning the game on its head with some birdies late into the round.

Cheered on by a vocal crowd the match marked Joseph's maiden scratch final, and we're certain it won't be long until the youngster lifts the title for himself.
