The Tenby GC team hosted Glynhir B in their final Dyfed League fixture for 2017.
The visitors had mistakenly turned up the previous Sunday and were allowed courtesy of the Tenby links. However, this practice round did not assist as the home side ran out handsome winners by 7.5 games to 1.5.
The weather was idyllic for golf, although a stiff southerly breeze prevailed.
The first three Tenby pairs all enjoyed big wins. Dave Morris and Jeff Banfield beat Mark Jones and Stan Davies by 4 and 3.
Ben Childs and Paul Jenkins ran away from Dylan Howells and Robbie Roberts, winning 6 and 4. Chris Thompson and Lewis Hurlow hammered Rob Williams and Grant Tommason 6 and 5.
Glynhir’s Steve Singleton and Martin Colley stopped the rot by defeating Darren Thomas and Gary McNeilly on the last green.
Unfortunately, Glynhir skipper Ray Davies had to play on his own against Steve Sutcliffe and Jerry Whitehouse. Despite an admiral effort, he went down by 4 and 3.
Loz Phillips’s run of wins came to an end. However, after being three down against Graham Gunnell and Gordan Elliott, he and Dai Cope fought back for a half.
Roger Schooling and Jeremy Peters won their second consecutive home match when beating Martin Toms and Richard Thomas by 3 and 2.
Ian Thomas and Chris Beecher faced Glynhir’s oldest and youngest - Mel Leach (72) and Taylor Harris (14). The home duo won 6 and 4.
In the last game, TGC captain Neil Thomas and debutant Austin Davies also won 6 and 4 against Mark Martin and Ian Rees.
Tenby are likely to finish second in Division Two behind Haverfordwest who will be promoted. Relegation from both Division One and Division Two is yet undecided. However, South Pembs are favourite for promotion from Division Three.
Tenby squad members should note that the traditional end of season get-together is likely to take place on Saturday, October 7 - further details in due course.
