A glorious sunny afternoon attracted a large crowd to enjoy a match of quality, commitment and goals galore at the King George V playing fields on Saturday in Divison 5 of the Manderwood Pembrokeshire League.
New Hedges Saundersfoot Utd (NHS) delivered a sparkling display of attacking football against an experienced Lawrenny seconds side, running out worthy winners with their swashbuckling brand of football entertaining all present.
A much changed NHS line up from the first match of the season, with the splendidly talented Tom Mansbridge (off on his Australian cricket adventure) and the midfield heneral Dan Bates both missing, meant a reshuffle of the pack, allowing the evergreen Sam Coleman, the goal machine Michael Ryder and the much missed Rhys Bates to start.
The back four reshuffle saw the Gray brothers pairing up in the middle, allowed Rhys Bates and Ryan Lawrence to snuff out any threats from the flanks.
The restyled midfield saw Taine Brace moving from defence to midfield, it looked to be a master stroke by manager Alan Brindley but unfortunately Taine suffered a nasty toe injury and had to leave the pitch.
Coleman displayed all of his experience and class skilfully knitting the patterns of play together like a tapestry master. Joe Simmons and Ricky Rees- Thomas completed the midfield with silky touches and goal scoring performances.
Up front the much awaited debut appearance of former Tenby striker Ryder, paired up with the explosive Jack Franklin, meant that few if any sides will keep a clean sheet when they have to face these two.
Keeper Geoff Marsh was desperate to keep a clean sheet and although he wasn’t overworked, due to the miserly NHS backline, he remained calm and assured at all times.
Substitutes were Jack Mearns, Jordan Jones and Luke Merrony.
NHS started the scoring midway through the first half with a neatly guided header by Ricky, followed shortly after with Ryder opening his NHS account.
A third followed just before the break from the powerful running of Simmons and a neat finish.
The second half performance was far more relaxed, plenty of intricate moves but still plenty of menace whenever the ball came within striking range.
More goals arrived through a second Ryder goal, a brace from Franklin and a debut goal from Jordan Jones, who had started on the subs bench.
The final score of 7-0 sent the crowd off to the clubhouse is high spirits after an entertaining afternoon of attacking football.
Match sponsor was again the generous Gerald Hewitt Painting/Decorating and Property Management.
