Merlins Bridge took the honours at the West Wales Intermediate Cup final beating local rivals Carew 3-1 at Swansea’s Liberty Stadium on Tuesday night.

It was an historic occasion for the county as the teams were the first to play in an all Pembrokeshire final.

Merlins Bridge who last month came from behind to narrowly beat Carew in the Senior Cup Final, took the lead when winger Adam Hawkins volleyed in at the back post.

Lloyd Hughes then fired an equaliser low into the back of the net for Carew before being forced off with an injury before the interval.

With just over an hour gone Carew centre back Jack Christopher got caught in possession by Hawkins, who ran through to calmly slot the ball into the bottom left corner to give the Wizards the lead again.

With just under 10 minutes to go Merlins Bridge sealed the victory when a nice one-two between Ashley Beck and Nathan Greene, resulted in Beck lifting the ball over the ‘keeper to make it 3-1.

After the win, Merlins Bridge player/manager Matthew D’Ivry said he was ‘overwhelmed’ with the victory.

“I am delighted, this group of players deserve it for the hard work and commitment they have shown,” he said.
