THE Manderwood Pembrokeshire Football League Division One season got under way on Monday evening, with Merlins Bridge emerging as the biggest winners.

The Bridge marked their long-awaited return to their home ground facilities with an impressive 4-1 victory over last season's runners-up, Monkton Swifts.

New signing Aaron Hallam made an immediate impact, scoring a hat-trick on his debut. He opened the scoring from the penalty spot midway through the first half, although Monkton quickly levelled.

Kieran Blundell restored the hosts' lead on the half-hour mark before Hallam struck again moments later after combining well with Iwan Howells. Hallam completed his treble early in the second half to seal the victory.

Monkton enjoyed long spells of possession and battled well throughout, but were unable to match the clinical finishing of the home side.

Substitute Daryl Williams proved the hero for Tenby, scoring a late winner in a thrilling 3-2 victory over Fishguard.

The visitors looked in control after Luke Thomas netted twice, but Harri Phillips' strike on the hour sparked a superb comeback. Rhys Morgan levelled from the penalty spot with 13 minutes remaining before Williams grabbed the decisive goal.

Pennar Robins also recorded a 3-2 away win at Neyland.

Ben Gale gave the hosts the lead early in the second half, but Thomas Grimwood made amends for an earlier missed penalty by equalising just after the hour mark. Seventeen-year-old Ashton Marshallsay restored Neyland's advantage on 74 minutes, only for Toby Davies to score twice late on and snatch victory for the Robins.

Jonathan Bennett scored the only goal of the game as Carew edged past hosts St Ishmaels.

Elsewhere, Johnston and New Hedges Saundersfoot played out a goalless draw in Division Two, while Lawrenny began their Division Three campaign with a 7-3 victory over Letterston.
