CHAMPIONS Hakin United kicked off their Pembrokeshire Football League Division One title defence in emphatic fashion with a 6-0 victory at Narberth on Tuesday evening.

The Vikings were dominant from the outset, with Leon Luby causing constant problems for the home defence. The winger created a host of opportunities and, after just eight minutes, opened the scoring when his looping cross-shot sailed into the top corner.

Hakin doubled their advantage seven minutes later through the influential Mason Dolling before Luby turned provider for Camron Thomas, who netted his first of the evening to make it 3-0.

It was an outstanding first-half display from the visitors and, in truth, the lead could have been even greater. Luby's delivery from wide areas caused havoc, Scott Ferney's intelligent movement stretched the Narberth defence, and Hakin's relentless work rate made life extremely difficult for the hosts.

Narberth improved after the break and deserve credit for a much more competitive second-half showing. While the final scoreline appears harsh, particularly given Hakin's late flurry of goals, the home side were far more organised and resilient during the opening stages of the second period.

Dolling grabbed his second goal of the match on 75 minutes before substitute Liam Parks added a fifth.

The best was saved until last as Thomas completed the scoring with a superb finish from a tight angle, beating the goalkeeper to seal an impressive opening-night win for the champions.

Goodwick United also made a winning start to their league campaign after overcoming Milford United in a hard-fought encounter at Phoenix Park.

Goals from William Haworth and Thomas Jago gave the hosts a 2-0 lead at the interval.

Liam Parr pulled a goal back for Milford in stoppage time, but it proved little more than a consolation as Goodwick held on to secure all three points.
