HAVERFORDWEST County were made to pay for missed chances and a lack of cutting edge as Penybont claimed a convincing 3-0 victory at the Ogi Bridge Meadow on Friday night.
The visitors controlled much of the first half and turned their dominance into a two-goal advantage before the break. Max Melbourne opened the scoring when he headed home Mael Davies' cross, before Nathan Wood reacted quickest to tuck away a rebound on the stroke of half-time.
County's best opportunity came five minutes before the interval. Jack Wilson burst down the right and delivered a superb low cross into the six-yard box, but Ben Ahmun was unable to find the target from close range.
Penybont nearly extended their lead shortly after the restart when Eduino Vaz found space in the penalty area, only for his dangerous ball across goal to evade everyone.
The Bluebirds improved after the break and looked far more competitive, restricting the visitors to few clear chances while enjoying more possession. However, despite their increased endeavour, Tony Pennock's side struggled to create meaningful openings in the final third.
A controversial moment arrived midway through the second period when Penybont appealed for a red card after Ethan Cann went down under a challenge from Kyle McCarthy. Following a VAR review, officials instead awarded a free-kick to County after spotting a foul by Cann in the build-up.
The second half also saw a milestone moment for Jack Walker, who made his first Cymru Premier appearance after coming off the bench in the closing stages.
With County pushing forward in search of a way back into the contest, spaces inevitably opened up at the other end. Penybont took full advantage in the closing moments when Tyler Walker sent Noah Daley clear, and the substitute calmly finished to wrap up the win.
