Tenby United 39 pts

Llanelli Wanderers 3

Andrew Price, FBM Holidays, GD Harries and Molson Coors Sponsored Tenby United 1st XV welcomed Llanelli Wanderers to Heywood Lane on Saturday and with the visitors being the only team to beat The Seasiders in both fixtures last season, the hosts weren't about to take them lightly and had prepared all week for a tough encounter.

As it turned out though the home side had little to worry about, and other than a Johnny George penalty for the visitors on a quarter of an hour, the ever improving Tenby side controlled the game from start to finish, running in five quality tries and earning themselves the bonus point and maximum five league points to keep the pressure firmly on Penclawdd at the top of the division.

Tenby's first half points came from two Jonathan Rogers penalties and tries from impressive fullback Damo Miller, who rounded off a brilliant move, after Dai Meyrick cut a hole in the visitors defensive line before passing to Miller who threw a text book dummy before crossing for the score which Rogers converted.

Then it was fly half Lloyd Thomas' turn to cross the line following another excellent passage of play from the Seasiders backline which Rogers also converted.

Hooker Gareth Jones rounded off a fine first half performance from Tenby Utd with a try which came as a result of the pack being dominant in every area and providing the ball for the backs to do what they do best.

The ball moved along the line to Greg Lees Griffiths who lofted a terrific pass to the supporting Jones who brushed off two would be tacklers in the process of touching down for the unconverted try.

'Much of the same' was the message from United's camp at half time and this is exactly what they and the large crowd of regular supporters got.

The Seasiders ran in another two tries in the second half, both of which were converted by Rogers.

The first of which came from a move started and finished by centre Jack Guerreiro who turned the visitors over in a tackle to get the ball away to his team mates and then his work rate and effort to support the ball carrier paid off as he took the pass from Miller to canter in and score, injuring his shoulder in the process.

Then came the only real pressure from the visitors with them looking to move the ball wide after finding no way through the home pack's defence.

The backs defended equally as well as the forwards and any spark the visitors tried to light was soon snuffed out.

Number 8 Patrick Roberts ran in the second and final try of the half following a sterling effort from prop Rob Clark.

Clark broke through the visiting defence to find himself with open space between him and the line and although after 22 metres of 'Bolt' style sprinting, he would probably have had the legs to make it himself, he selflessly offloaded to Roberts to be sure of the score as the defence closed in on him five metres out.

Tenby controlled the remaining few minutes of the game as they had all day long, dominating the scrum, line out and contact area through solid pack play and with the backs letting the ball do the work and making it look relatively easy to break their opponents down.

Tenby fielded: Damo Miller, Dan Colley(Jack Price), Jack Guerreiro(Dan Thomas), Greg Lees Griffiths, Lloyd Thomas, John Rogers, Pat Roberts, Luke Hansford, Roy Osborn, Luke Dedman, Chris James(c), Rob Clark, Gareth Jones(Rob Fairlie), Geoff Martin(Johnny Palmer).

There's no 1st XV game this weekend, but United's 2nd XV will be entertaining Newport in the Pembs Junior Union Cup tomorrow (Saturday) at Heywood Lane, kick- off 2 pm.
