TENBY Sailing Club opened its doors to the new Tenby Chess Club on Tuesday, 14th April .
It is the fourth new chess club to start in Pembrokeshire in the last 12 months and joins the new clubs in Fishguard, Haverfordwest and Narberth who now have over 140 new members between them.
The club is open to all ages and abilities. The youngest member of Fishguard Chess Club is only seven years old! Also all abilities are welcome from absolute beginners to the more experienced player.
There appears to be a real demand for this sort of club in Pembrokeshire judging from the take up at the other new clubs.
Many people took up the game online during Covid and are now keen to get off the screen and onto the board.
The aim is to provide a friendly and inclusive environment where people can come and enjoy a few games and maybe make a few new friends.
The last time there was any sort of formal chess club in Tenby was in 1928 when Tenby hosted the British Championships.
It is hoped that the club will attract many new members over the next few weeks and make it the sort of club that Tenby can be proud of.
The venue has already attracted some admiring comments from members of other chess clubs who wonder how anyone can concentrate on the game with the views from the Top Deck.
The club is held every Tuesday evening from 7pm to 9.pm. No charge just a voluntary contribution on the night.
The Fishguard RapidPlay Chess Tournament is being held at The Market Hall, Fishguard Town Hall on Saturday, 25 April.
Places are filling fast. For entry details go to www.fishguardchess.co.uk/Rapidplay.
