Carew Hockey Club's second string entertained Llanishen & Caerphilly on Saturday.

On paper, this should have been a comfortable victory for the visitors and it looked as if that might be the case as they took the initiative early on to open up a 2-1 lead.

However, a mixture of dogged determination from the older members of the Carew squad and pure exuberance from the younger members (a number of them being under 16) led to a great comeback.

After having a goal disallowed, intense pressure finally told, with Geoff Marsh popping up at the back post to convert a half chance.

This spurred on the home side and led to some superb flowing passing movements, with the ball criss-crossing the pitch with apparent ease. After a series of short corners, Carew got the break they deserved and scored a deserved winner.
