Kilgetty Cricket Club held a pre-season get-together last Saturday night with a BBQ and buffet, for players to socialise and awards to be presented for the 2012 season.

Chairman Allen Hurst welcomed everyone and thanked all who had assisted Kilgetty Cricket Club during the previous year, including sponsors, groundsmen, coaches, parents, scorers, tea ladies, supporters and bar staff.

He then went on to ask Mr. Gerald Tucker, previous Kilgetty CC captain of the 1969 Harrison Allen winning side, to present top senior wicket taker (26 wickets in 13 games) to Anthony Bevan with his first award of the evening.

The second award to be presented was for the most runs scored (384 in 12 innings, with an average of over 42), but unfortunately Peter Hall was unavailable due to work commitments.

Cricket club president, Mr. Colin Williams, then explained his presentation, which was in memory of Michael James (known affectionately as Ferret), who was a staunch supporter of both cricket and football at Kilgetty, and cleaned changing rooms after every game, also helping to keep the cricket scoreboard up to date during games. The winner was once again Anthony Bevan!

The third award of the evening was the senior players' player of the season where players nominate who they thought achieved the best overall performance of the season. Once again, the worthy recipient was Anthony Bevan.

To conclude the evening's presentations, the junior players' player of the season was revealed; this award is sponsored annually by Gerry Tucker and presented in memory of his father Peter Tucker, who initiated Kilgetty Cricket Club with Billie Evans in 1958.

Gerry, his wife Anne and his sister Shirley Poole were in attendance, awarding Liam Cullen the trophy for the second consecutive year, as well as a £50 cricket kit voucher.

The cricket club would like to thank everyone who helped to make the evening a success, especially Nicci and Allen Hurst, Hazel and Shirley Poole, Pam Protheroe, Hazel Lawton, Joan Beynon, Penny Gorman, Colin Williams, Gerry and Anne Tucker and Brian and Louise Cullen.

Allen Hurst finished the evening by congratulating Liam Cullen, who plays his football for Swansea Under 14/16s, on being selected to play for Wales Under 16s in Poland this week.
