HAKIN United moved another step closer to the Manderwoood Pembrokeshire League Division One title with a late surge that finally broke the resistance of a determined Merlins Bridge side at the Pembrokeshire Sports Village on Saturday.
With only two top‑flight fixtures surviving the week’s severe weather, the spotlight was firmly on Scott Davies’ Vikings – and they eventually delivered.
Hakin dominated the first half but the Wizards’ defence threw everything into blocking, scrambling and shutting down space, while keeper Daniel Pearce produced a superb save to deny Jack Britton.
At the other end, Liam Manwaring went close and Rory Williams had to be sharp to keep out a well-struck effort by Nathan Evans.
The breakthrough finally arrived on 80 minutes. A goalmouth scramble ended with substitute Mark Jones colliding with Pearce, the loose ball falling kindly for skipper Ryan Wilson to turn home – much to the frustration of the Merlins Bridge bench, who felt their keeper had been fouled.
Hakin then showed their class late on. A slick one‑two between Jordan Kilby and Britton ended with Britton rifling an unstoppable 20‑yard strike into the top corner, before Kilby teed up Leon Luby in stoppage time to seal a 3–0 win and push the Vikings ever closer to the title.
At the other end of the table, Kilgetty finally tasted victory – and did so in style – with a morale‑boosting 3–0 win over third‑placed St Ishmaels on the Pembroke Leisure Centre 3G.
After three straight draws, the league’s bottom side struck early through Oliver Rowlands, set up by Euan Gottwaltz. Henry Lawrence doubled the lead on 52 minutes, and Rowlands added his second late on after good work from Jordan Gorman.
For Kilgetty, it was a long‑awaited reward; for Tish, a second consecutive setback.
