Last Saturday, 89-year-old war veteran Gerry Price from Pembroke Dock took to the skies for a tandem parachute jump in aid of the Pembroke Dock Bicentenary 2014 Fund.
Supporters left Pembroke Dock at 6.45 am on a fantastic coach supplied by Silcox Coaches and headed for Swansea Airport.
On arrival at 8.30 am, Gerry was whisked off to the briefing room. After 30 minutes, Gerry appeared and we had a good chat about it all.
At 11.45 am, Gerry was summoned to the dressing room and when he appeared again he was dressed all in yellow - what a fantastic flight suit.
At 12 noon, Gerry's name was called out over the loudspeaker and asked to join the rest of the parachute team to board the aircraft for take off. He really looked the part, everybody cheered him on and wished him good luck.
The aircraft reached its height of 13,000-feet, you can guess the rest, yes Gerry was literally airborne to put it mildly.
Finally, Gerry appeared back on earth and was he smiling, yes he thoroughly enjoyed it. I spoke to his instructor before and after the flight and could not believe that he could do it, he proved everyone wrong.
When Gerry landed with his instructor, it was a perfect landing and next there were cameras everywhere taking pictures of our now famous Gerry Price and so he should be.
After all the celebrations were over at the airport, we finally left about 1.45 pm. What a day!
Thank you to everyone who supported Gerry and also helped the Bicentenary Fund for 2014.
At present, there is at least £1,000 raised from the parachute jump with lots more to come.
