A man who brandished a ‘fearsome’ Samurai sword during a street fight in broad daylight on a summer afternoon in Pembroke Dock has been put behind bars.
The case at Swansea Crown Court heard that on June 15, 2024, police received multiple reports about a disturbance in the middle of Pembroke Street.
During the incident, described as ‘men brawling in the street’ which was "more reminiscent of the Wild West of America in the 19th Century than West Wales in the 21st Century" - according to Judge Paul Thomas KC, 48-year-old Michel Valmont of Water Street, Pembroke Dock, appeared dressed all in black, wielding the weapon, as he joined in with the disturbance.
The prosecutor said members of the public were understandably concerned about what the man wielding the sword was intending to do as he chased the other two men involved.
Valmont who had 74 previous convictions for 203 offences including possession of weapons, violence, and public disorder was sentenced to 15 months in prison.
52-year-old Stephen Charge, who resided on the street and was part of the initial ‘ugly brawl’ with 47-year-old Trevor Herridge (who had passed away since being charged) was sentenced to eight months in prison suspended for two years.
