Tenby is gearing up for its Christmas festivities with planning underway for the big switch-on and welcoming Santa back to the seaside town once again.

The big switch-on will take place on Saturday, November 28, with Father Christmas due to be given an escort into Tudor Square by the local fire crew, after arriving via the RNLI’s all-weather lifeboat.

Tenby Round Table has once again confirmed that it’s fundraising ‘Santa Run’ event will once again take place on the same day, between 11am and 12.30pm.

The run is quite a sight - with hundreds of participants in Santa suits running/jogging around the streets of Tenby, taking in the views of the picturesque harbour and North Beach.

Those that take part in the annual charity 3k run around the resort, will get a Santa Suit and medal included with their entry.

Shorter routes are available for children, but they are also welcome to take on the longer route as well if they prefer and are able.

Registration will open in the St Marys Church Hall, from 10am and close promptly at 10.45am with the races due to start from 11am.

A spokesperson for Tenby Round Table said: “This is an open road fun run event. There are no winners, please take your time, and be aware of vehicles as there limited no road closures on this route.

“Tenby’s Santa Run is proud to support good causes, with 100% of the profits from the event being donated to charity.

“So when you take part, you’re not only having a great time and getting into the Christmas spirit, you’re also helping to make a real difference too.”

Meanwhile, Tenby Town Council’s ‘festivities committee’ met over the summer to discuss plans for the main event.

Following the meeting, and discussions of moving the market stalls from being located in Tudor Square over the duration of the day in the lead up to Santa arriving, to inside the grounds of St Mary’s Church, Cllr Anna Bolton and the Mayor, Cllr Dai Morgan had since discussed and agreed that it would be good to approach businesses face to face, adding a more personal touch.

Capacity will be confirmed once measurements undertaken, but the market will be moving into the Church Grounds, as councillors believed that this would improve crowd management.

Those around the table of the most recent meeting of Tenby Town Council heard that the church grounds will hold at least 10 gazebos and there may be capacity for that again.

It was discussed that the best way of controlling access would be by opening up the gates on St Georges Street and Frog Street, to help spread the event beyond the centre of Tudor Square and help ensure there would be no bottle neck.

It was confirmed that stallholders will be able to borrow Town Council gazebos for a nominal fee.

Gazebos will need to be collected prior to the day and stallholders will be responsible for erecting and dismantling.
