With news that Saundersfoot’s Sands Nighclub looks set to close its doors after more than 50 years, club-goers both locally and from afar have been sharing fond memories of the venue.
The latest post on the venue’s Facebook page states that it would be ‘operating on limited hours’ over the winter period, and it’s last advertised event was for Saturday, October 3.
Even though Saundersfoot has a wealth of pubs, bars and restaurants, it’s the latest blow for the seaside village’s nightlife, with the family running one of most popular pubs - The Hean Castle Inn giving a heartfelt thanks to customers and staff, after announcing that they were sadly closing the doors to the establishment ahead of the summer.

Sharing possibe farewells to the Sands (located on Milford Street) on social media, one person remarked: “Out of all the clubs this one was my all time fave. Loved the place. It’s a shock that it’s closing, they were advertising the over 30s night recently, I was half tempted to go. I wonder what will happen to the place?’
Another commented: “I used to go to the Sands when it was a casino in 1968. Chris Clarkson was the manager - he used to stand at the end of the Roulette table wearing a dinner suit and dark glasses.”
Pembrokeshire resident Hugh Colley stated: When I was a Police Inspector at Tenby in the 90s - The Sands, Night Owl and Chequers were all very popular with coaches coming from far and wide. All three premises are now closed - a sad sign of the times!”

Earlier this year, the Sands venue was at the forefront of the Saundersfoot New Year’s Day Swim 40th anniversary celebrations, hosting a nostalgic unforgettable throwback celebration at the venue, with a spectacular 1980s-themed after party to help mark the 2026 milestone swim.
