LOK and Jen Cheung, the couple behind Tenby’s successful Umi Japanese Restaurant, Lokky’s in Saundersfoot and Pentlepoir’s award-winning Dragon Palace Restaurant have purchased the old Dragon and Pearl restaurant in Haverfordwest.

The couple’s Dragon Collection currently comprises five local businesses, including the Imperial Dragon Hotel and Café No. 25; now they are set to make it half a dozen.

They are looking forward to opening their latest addition to the Dragon Collection possibly in six months time, and are keen to find out what local people would like the new restaurant to serve: Is it Chinese, Japanese, Thai food, or a combination of all?

”Whatever they decide, this is most definitely brilliant news for Haverfordwest, the county town of Pembrokeshire,” said Thomas Tudor, County Councillor for Haverfordwest’s Castle Ward, who was delighted to meet up with Lok and Jen recently.

It was in 2008 that Tony and Michelle Cheung opened the Dragon Palace restaurant and takeaway, bringing more than three decades of experience in Chinese catering. Eighteen years later, it is still going strong.

Now run by their son Lok and his wife Jen, the restaurant won best Delivery Experience in the UK at the Golden Chopsticks in 2024, and achieved a top 3 position in the Asian Restaurant of the Year category at the Food Awards Wales 2025 as well as receiving an Outstanding Achievement award for its takeaway. The top award went to Umi, the couple’s Tenby High Street restaurant!

Meanwhile Lokky’s was named Best Restaurant in Wales at the Golden Chopsticks Awards in 2022 and Best Pan Asian Establishment at the Food Awards Wales 2025.

At the Welsh Restaurant Awards 2026, Dragon Palace was crowned Chinese Restaurant of the Year, while Lokky’s won International Restaurant of the Year.

Umi was shortlisted for Japanese Restaurant of the Year at the Welsh Restaurant Awards 2026.
