Club members had fabricated a super marquee a few years ago and this turned out to be a fantastic acquisition on the night. Three intrepid members even faced the rapids of the Cresswell River in sheeting rain to organise the duck race which was won by Judith Tarascons, of Milford Haven.
Narberth butcher Andrew Rees was undeterred as he carved the very tasty roasted pig in conditions resembling a tropical monsoon. Strawberries and cream and a fantastic array of vegetarian dishes were also available.
A few of Maurice's customers in the bar enjoyed some free food courtesy of the Rotary Club and Hugh Harrison Allen won a basket of fruit in the raffle.
As a token of the Rotary Club's appreciation of their hospitality, president Mary Pearce Jones presented Maurice and Janet Cole with a cheque to add to the excellent funds both have raised for Cancer Research.
In spite of the adverse conditions, a wonderful evening of camaraderie and fellowship was enjoyed by all and the Rotarians are to be congratulated for their determination in carrying out a successful and enjoyable evening in spite of the daunting circumstances.
