Excited staff at Folly Farm have just announced nine new additions this season. Ten female deer, or 'hinds', arrived at the farm in March 2007 and were thought to be pregnant. During the month of June, staff discovered that nine Red Deer calves had been born. Theses adorable new babies have been born with distinctive coats which are spotted, but will generally lose these markings after two months. In addition to these new arrivals, a new stag will be joining the herd, just in time for the new rutting season, which commences in the autumn months of September/October. Farm manager Jane Hill commented: "The animals are a delight to look after. As soon as I get out of the jeep, they come running up the field to meet me; they are just incredibly friendly animals! "They have all settled in very well into their new enclosure and you can see them from the land train when you travel through the country park and trail and on hot days you are likely to see them cooling off by wallowing and swimming in their lake. "These wonderful animals are a very welcome addition at Folly Farm," she concluded.
