A well-used footpath to a beach between Tenby and Saundersfoot still remains closed to the public, almost three years after is was deemed inaccessible by Local Authorities.

Monkstone Beach at Trevayne remains inaccessible as safety concerns persist due to unstable slopes, where steps were lost during storms back in 2023

With concerns raised recently regarding access to the beach, County councillor for Saundersfoot’s south ward, Cllr Chris Williams said that he contacted the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority (PCNPA) for an update, and they have confirmed that the footpath to the beach remains unsafe due to instability on the slope.

“This position has not changed following geological surveys commissioned by the Authority, and the path therefore remains closed,” explained Cllr Williams.

“PCNPA have advised that signage and barriers continue to be maintained at the site, and a reminder has recently been issued on social media reiterating the closure.

“Please be assured that work on this matter remains ongoing, and updates will be shared as soon as they become available.

“Monkstone is a highly valued and well-used beach between Saundersfoot and Tenby, enjoyed by both residents and visitors alike.

“Improved access in the future would greatly benefit the community and help ensure this beautiful and unspoilt part of our coastline can once again be safely enjoyed by all,” he continued.

At the time the warning was issued, PCNPA explained that inclement weather for the area, led to a number of steps on the public footpath being damaged and dislodged, while a series of cracks had also appeared in the footpath’s surface.

While the closure is still in place it means there is no safe way to exit the beach from Monkstone and anyone walking at low tide on the foreshore from Saundersfoot or from Tenby will need to be aware of this when planning their walk.
