Opening Saturday, October 3 and running until October 17 - ‘Pools of Thought’ is a new exhibition by Pembrokeshire Illustrator Fran Evans at the Waterfront Gallery in Milford Haven.

Since early childhood, Fran has had an awareness and concern for the natural world, specifically the microcosms: life under stones, in hedges and tree roots – but some of her earliest memories are associated with the life in rock pools.

‘Pools of Thought’ is the result of Fran’s research on several of Pembrokeshire’s beaches: it celebrates the shape, colour and unique compositions of the rock pools found along the coast.

She said: “These underwater worlds contain transient inhabitants as well as permanent ones – all dictated by the tides and weather. It is the constant movement of creatures and plants that mesmerise me. When I was a child, I used to play in the red, honeycombed rocks at Sandy Haven, and spend hours watching periwinkles sliding amongst the weed and prawns lurking in the shadows.”

Fran uses watercolour, pastels, gouache and ink to create her artworks. She works professionally as an illustrator with clients including The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, Cadw, Gomer Press, The Cleddau Project and Two Bad Mice Publishers. She also facilitates workshops in primary schools throughout the County.

The exhibition is open Wednesday to Saturday, 10.30am-4pm.
