Pembrokeshire College lecturer and salon owner Marcus Smith reaches F.A.M.E. Team final

LOCAL salon owner and lecturer at Pembrokeshire College Marcus Smith has secured a place in the final of one of the hairdressing industry’s most recognised talent development programmes, the prestigious Fellowship Academy of Merit and Excellence (F.A.M.E.) Team.

Widely regarded as one of the hairdressing industry’s leading career development opportunities, the F.A.M.E. Team gives aspiring stylists the chance to work alongside some of the profession’s most influential names while showcasing their creativity on a national stage.

Marcus impressed the judges during the semi-finals with two glam rock inspired looks, combining bold colour, strong shapes and fashion-led styling.

It’s another milestone in what has already been an exciting year for Marcus. His involvement in Project Wales through The Fellowship of British Hairdressing has provided valuable opportunities to develop his expertise, build industry connections and explore new creative opportunities.

And it was only last August that Marcus joined Team GB at the prestigious OMC Hairworld global championships in Paris, competing in the Creative Colour and Style category.

The final F.A.M.E. Team showcase will take place at Salon International in October.

“Competing at this level is always a huge challenge, but it’s also where I learn the most,” said Marcus. “I wanted my looks to have a strong identity while still showing my own style and creativity.”

“It’s been an incredible journey so far. I’m proud to represent Pembrokeshire and take the creativity and skills I’ve developed here onto a much bigger stage,” Marcus added. He also praised the models, make-up artists, sponsors and the Fellowship for British Hairdressing team who supported him throughout the competition journey.

Alongside running his salon, Marcus continues to inspire the next generation of hairdressers at Pembrokeshire College by sharing his industry knowledge, experience and passion for the profession.
