SOME new adults and juniors have been welcomed to the Pembrokeshire Chess Club who meet in Kensington Court in Steynton on a Tuesday night. Everyone has been enjoying the games.

The club welcomes Leon and Luke Lorch, Owen Alcock and youngest member Evan Badham.

The Dyfed County Junior sides have played two matches 12-a-side recently, narrowly beating West Wales but losing to a very strong East Glamorgan where they were heavily out graded but all put in commendable performances . Congratulations to Dylan Bambrick of Saundersfoot / Tenby on picking up the draw on that day. It was pleasing to see the club represented by Harry, Osian, Suki, Leon, Jozef and Gabriel who all enjoyed the experience.

Jozef and Scott also took part in a rapid festival at Pembroke Castle organised by Haverfordwest Chess Club, coach Scott also entered the Welsh Seniors whilst Martin played in the Weymouth Major.

The Dyfed all Play All Under 1500 and friendly rated games started their festivals at Pembrokeshire College, the home of Haverfordwest Chess Club on Monday, October 26 with nine members of Pembrokeshire Chess Club taking part.

In all, there were 22 players from Fishguard, Haverfordwest, Narberth and Pembrokeshire Chess Clubs taking part, with a mixture of age groups and experience. These were paired as equally as possible, giving some great matches, some going down to the last minute or so. Some people were playing their first rated games using the clock and scoring, and it was a marvellous experience for all.

Martin Jones, League Controller, spoke to most people at the end and the feedback was positive, with everyone enjoying themselves and looking forward to playing again. Gwyn Evans, Dyfed League Chairman, congratulated everyone.

On Tuesday, October 27 Pembrokeshire Chess Club played Narberth at HQ in a return leg, a friendly 6-board match. It was great to see a mix of three adults and three juniors playing with the winner being chess!
