CARDIGAN 7 pts.

TENBY UNITED 12

High-riding Tenby United maintained their 100 per cent league record on Saturday when they travelled over the Preselis to play Cardigan.

But as expected, it was a tough encounter for the unbeaten Seasiders, as the determined Cardies ran them close, before the Seasiders edged it by just five points.

The result meant that the normally free-scoring United also dropped their first point of the season in Division Three West, having gained a maximum return from their opening five matches, with a bonus point in each.

It was always going to be difficult to keep that record going, though, and no doubt the Seasiders were glad to be returning home with at least another win under their belts.

And particularly so after there was nothing to separate the two teams at the interval, with the half-time score standing at seven-apiece.

Tenby's first half points had come from a try by impressive centre Jack Guerreiro, with scrum-half Jonathan Rogers adding the extras with a successful conversion.

The Teifisiders replied with a touchdown of their own by winger Dorian Butler, converted by Iestyn Crompton.

The turning point probably came, though, when Cardigan centre Emyr Harries was sent off and, down to 14 men, it was always going to be a struggle for them after that.

Nevertheless, they battled on bravely and kept Tenby at bay for long periods, but in the end they could not prevent centre Dai Meyrick claiming a match-winning try for the delighted Seasiders.

Top-of-the-table United will be hoping that thet can continue their winning ways when they entertain Tycroes at Heywood Lane tomorrow (Saturday).
