Tenby Golf Club embarked on its annual pilgrimage to Swansea last weekend, but unfortunately both matches were not completed due to the adverse weather.
At Pennard on Saturday, a very heavy mist suddenly appeared when most games were at least halfway round the tough links course. Players of both teams were disappointed to hear the klaxon, but the decision was vindicated as conditions thereafter worsened and the course is crossed by several footpaths.
The problem at Machynys on Sunday was the fairly torrential rain coupled with a strong south-westerly wind. Most games lasted six holes before the soaked golfers trudged back to the clubhouse.
On Saturday, the only match to finish was that involving Martin Morris and Gary McNeilly, who lost the first four holes and eventually went down 4 and 3 to big-hitter Lee Dickinson and his partner Dudley Hendricks.
Dave Blackmore and Mick Seal were two up in their match and Gethin Evans and John Gilman were all-square, but the other Tenby pairs were down slightly.
At Machynys, Tenby's first two pairings of captain Tony Key and Chris Beecher plus John Morris and Mick Seal were both one up when it was reluctantly decided to call off the golf, whilst the others were narrowly behind.
Despite the minimal golf, all in the Tenby party had an enjoyable weekend. The hospitality at both Pennard and Machynys was excellent. Loz Phillips won the Grand National sweep and captain Tony Kay came home with two lovely golf bag towels.
