The Trots have been busy over the last few weeks. Despite some pretty challenging weather conditions, members have performed well in a range of races.
On April 29, several members braved the wind and rain to compete in the Tenovus 10K at the Botanic Gardens, Llanarthne. Daryl John made an impression in his first race for the club by coming second with a time of 36.38. Mike Evans was fourth with a time of 38.04. Catharine Bleasdale was second lady overall and first lady over 35 in a time of 47.02. Other times were: Jason Dickinson (42.11); Simon Scurrell (43.22); Peter Walters (45.04); Cyril Walters (49.49); Oona Crawford (52.02); Keith Powell (54.50); Claire Thomas (58.06) and Tom Furness (59.14).
The Red Kite Challenge at Nant-yr-Arian, Aberystwyth, on May 5, was a big challenge for the small group of adventurous (or foolish) members who competed! Kevin Griffiths completed the 11-mile off-road race in 1.26.09, and was placed second in the Male 45 category. Elizabeth Goodwin Jones wasn't too far behind in a time of 1.35.19, which earned her the 3rd Open Female prize. Other times were: Catharine Bleasdale (1.42.40), Simon Scurrell (1.43.35) and Mike Hodges (2.23.57).
Kevin Griffiths followed his success in Aberystwyth with a more leisurely race on Sunday May 6. He gained third place in the Pendine Sands 5K with a time of 18.30, slightly behind Jack Tremlett, who was second with a time of 18.26. Claire Thomas was first open lady in a time of 26.09.
The Carmarthen Mayor's Race on Bank Holiday Monday (May 7) was well-attended by the Trots and proved to be a successful afternoon (despite the rain!). Mike Evans was second overall with a time of 17.45, Jack Tremlett was third (18.06), Claire Cleathero was first lady overall (and first lady over 35) with a time of 20.08, whilst Elizabeth Goodwin Jones was hot on her heels with a time of 20.09, gaining first open female and second lady overall. Lindy Eynon was second lady over 45 in a time of 21.45. Other times were: Tim John (19.25); Simon Scurrell (19.35); Jonathan Hancock (21.47); Mike Terry (23.18) and Mike Hodges (26.27).
On Tuesday, May 8, a group of Trots runners travelled to Swansea to compete in the first Swansea Bay 5K of the 2012 Series. Results were: Adam Roberts (17.51); Kevin Griffiths (17.58); Mark Terry (20.06); Elizabeth Goodwin Jones (20.07); Cyril Walters (22.43); Ann Rowell (24.21); Adrienne Mackintosh (24.55).
On May 13, a few members took part in the Jan Younger Memorial 10K in Neyland. Jason Dickinson came seventh in a time of 40.24, Lindy Eynon was 19th in a time of 46.41 and Cyril Walters was 23rd with a time of 47.28.
Also on May 13, the Trap Show Fun Run proved to be less about fun and more about determination, although Mike Evans made light work of the challenging course by coming third overall. Oona Crawford was second lady overall. Also competing were Mark Terry, Mike Terry and Pauline Thomas.
