The annual get-together for the seniors took place on Thursday, December 12. The day started with the Derek Jones Christmas competition. The weather threatened all day and everyone had a dry round, except for those who had the forethought to bring hip flasks.

Winner with a very commendable score of 39 points was Bob Simpson; second was Dave Crowley on countback from Graham Longster, who both scored 36 points, with Roger Woodward coming in fourth.

Longest drive went to Dennis Holloway and nearest the pin was won by Jack Zeraschi

All were presented with their respective prizes at the after-match Christmas dinner. On receiving his prize, Bob Simpson gave a speech which for content and emotion could only be compared to Halle Berry's speech when she won an Oscar. There was not a dry eye in the house.

The aforementioned Christmas dinner took place in the Orangery and all were treated to a meal fit for kings, shame it was being eaten by knaves.

After the tables were cleared, the presentation of the season's trophies took place. Glyn Latcham won the Richard Davies four-club competition for the second year running. Dennis Holloway won the Seniors championship. Trevor Lewis won the Alan Chapman trophy.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The annual general meeting took place immediately after the presentation; this is a deliberate ploy as people are more likely to volunteer for vacant positions when imbibed with alcohol.

Outgoing captain Darrell Jones thanked everyone for their support throughout the year and wished incoming captain Derek Jones all the best for 2014.

Derek will be assisted by Jack Zeraschi, who obviously drank too much at last year's meeting and ended up as vice-captain.

Graham Harrison presented the accounts and stood down as treasurer, a post he has held for eight years. Graham was thanked for his sterling efforts and was replaced by Pat Casement.

Before he stood down, Graham said that the seniors' section seemed to have an unexpected deficit of £30,000, but not to worry, as he had a spare bank account with that amount in it which he would lend the section at a very favourable interest rate. We are thinking about it.
